Calmness during Crisis

(An Example from Job’s family Life)

I. Facts about Job

 1.Job 1:1; blameless and upright; feared God and shunned evil. 2. Family: lived with his wife, 7 boys and 3 girls (1:2). 3. Wealth: sheep – 7000 nos/ sand camels – 3000/ oxen – 500/ donkeys – 500 / servants – large number (1:3). 4. Job’s regular custom: plead for his children to God to purify them.

 II. Satan’s Intervention in Job’s Life (I test)

 1.God testifies about Job (1:8). 2. God has kept hedge around him, his family and his wealth (1:10). 3. God asked satan not to touch Job (1:12). 4. Destruction list (1:13 – 19). oxen & donkeys/ sheep & servants / camels / children.

 Job’s reaction: “Worshiped God” (1:20, 21), Did not sin & Did not charge God with wrong doing (or did not complain against God).

 III. Job’s affliction (II Test)

1.God’s testifies again (2:3b); Job maintained his integrity during his hardest times. 2. God asked Satan to spare Job’s life (2:6). 3. Painful sores on Job from soles of his feet to top of his head. (2:7). 4. Job’s stand and conviction even when his wife turned against God & him (2:9 & 10).

 Job’s reaction: “In all this Job did not sin with his lips” (2:10).

Can we judge God because of our crisis? No Never; God is JUST in what He does (40:1 & 2).

 Job’s response to God during crisis“ I will say no more”(40:4).

 IV.God Blessed Job greatly (42:10 – 16).

1.Lord made him prosperous again. 2. Lord gave twice as much as he had. 3. Lord blessed the latter part of Job’s life more than the first. 4. Revised Wealth List:  sheep – 14, 000 nos/ sand camels – 6000/ oxen – 1000/ donkeys – 1000 / servants – large number. 5. Lord extended his life time (lived 140 years; saw 4th generation).
