Transformation “Response of a Christian to the Mercies of God” Romans 12: 1 – 8 - Dr. Paul J Joseph Review: Romans 1, 2 & 3: Man’s lack of righteousness; 3 & 4: God’s provision of this righteousness; 5: Benefits of being justified through Faith; 6: Can we continue in sin? No. We are new creations; 7: The Law convicts, but it cannot save; 8: We are secure and there is no condemnation and suffering is a result of a fallen world. 9: God’s sovereign choice. 10: The easiness and the accessibility of salvation. 11: Remnant of Israel reserved by grace (God has made promises to Israel and He will keep them). II. The Christian’s Consecration, v 1, 2. v. 1: First command in Romans!. “__________ your bodies as a living ___________”. This is pleasing to God and reasonable act of worship (Gal. 2:20; Heb. 10:8; John 12:24; Heb. 11: 24, 25). v. 2: Not to ______________ to the pattern of this world, but be _______________. How? By the renewing of our mind (this is possible by knowing the word of God). (I John 2:15-17; Rom. 10: 17). “BIBLE: This Book will keep you away from sin or sin will keep you away from this Book” III. The Christian’s Relationship, v 3-5. v. 3: Do not think more highly but to think with sober judgement according to the measure of __________ given by God. We need to humble ourselves (I Peter 5:5) v. 4: Illustration of a human body: As every part of a body has direct access to the head, we as members are connected to the head of the church, Christ. v. 5: We need each other. We are not independent, but interdependent.. IV. The Christian’s duties through Gifts, v. 6-8. v. 6: We have different _________ according to the __________ given us (I Cor. 12:11). We ought to use them in proportion (in agreement with) to His faith. v. 7, 8: Seven gifts were mentioned. We have a responsibility to this body and our job is to be the best we can be. (Other passages on spiritual gifts: I Cor. 12, Eph. 4). V. Conclusion: The best way to respond to the mercies of God is to be transformed, to live as living sacrifices, to maintain a clear relationships with other Christians and use His gifts given us to the Body (Church). |
